Wiesbaden's March 15 elections draw record candidate lists and fresh political voices

Wiesbaden's upcoming local elections on March 15 have drawn strong interest from both established and new political groups. A total of 148 candidate lists have been filed for the district advisory board elections, with many focusing on specific neighbourhoods. The election committee will now review all submissions before finalising the ballot. The city council race has attracted 15 candidate lists, including fresh entries like Volt, the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance, and independent voter associations. These groups join more traditional parties in competing for seats.

For the foreign residents' advisory council, 16 lists have been submitted. Many of these come from migrant-led organisations and intercultural initiatives, reflecting the city's diverse population. The election committee meets this Friday to verify all applications. Their review will focus purely on formal requirements, ensuring every list meets legal standards. Content or political positions will not be assessed at this stage.

Once approved, the finalised candidate lists will appear on the March 15 ballot. Voters will choose representatives for the city council, district boards, and the foreign residents' advisory council. The high number of submissions suggests broad engagement in this year's local elections.
