Wiesbaden's Lord Mayor explores expansion of parcel lockers and informed delivery services
Wiesbaden's Lord Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende toured Deutsche Post's mail processing centre and DHL's delivery base on January 28. The visit highlighted the city's role in handling vast volumes of post and parcels. Discussions also centred on plans to expand local parcel locker services.
The Wiesbaden mail centre sorts roughly one million items each day. Nearby, the DHL delivery hub manages around 60,000 packages weekly for the state capital. Together, these operations form a key part of the region's logistics network.
Lord Mayor Mende met with Gabriele Schulz, DHL Group's regional policy representative. Schulz stressed the benefits of parcel lockers for residents, delivery workers, and urban planning. Mende responded by promising city backing for further informed delivery installations.
The Peter-Sander-Weg site alone employs nearly 500 staff, part of a wider workforce of 3,700 across Wiesbaden's postal branch. No single company representative was named as overseeing DHL's local package distribution.
