Wiesbaden’s Kärntner Quarter sets a new standard for sustainable urban living

A major housing development in Wiesbaden is making steady progress, with completion set for 2025 and 2026. The Kärntner Quarter project will bring 133 new apartments to the city, including 47 subsidised units for working families. Developers have emphasised affordability, sustainability, and community living in the design.

Construction reached a milestone on March 17, 2023, when GWW held a topping-out ceremony for phases 4, 7, and 8. The buildings follow Germany’s strict KfW Efficiency House 40 standard, ensuring high energy efficiency. Heating will come from a biogas-powered district network, reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

Residents will benefit from underground parking with electric vehicle charging points. The quarter will also feature shopping options, strong public transport connections, and leisure facilities, including the Kallebad pool and a playground. To support the community, GWW has opened a satellite office in the area, offering direct assistance to future and current residents.

The Kärntner Quarter aims to set a new standard for urban development in Wiesbaden. By combining affordable housing, green technology, and community-focused amenities, the project addresses both environmental and social needs. All 133 apartments are expected to be ready for occupancy between 2025 and 2026.
