Wiesbaden’s historic Platter Straße spring to close permanently after vandalism
Wiesbaden's historic Platter Straße spring will cease operation permanently in November. The shutdown follows repeated vandalism that caused damage and pollution, making repairs unfeasible. Residents will receive official notice on November 17.
The spring's water supply line will be decommissioned once pipeline renovations along Platter Straße conclude in November. These repairs, initiated in June 2025 as part of ESWE Versorgungs' sewer renewal work, aim to address the damage caused by vandalism. The fountain has suffered repeated harm, leading to its eventual closure.
While the Platter Straße spring will shut down, Wiesbaden's other public springs, the Rettertbrunnen and the Goldsteinquelle, will continue to operate. However, the Carl-von Jbell Spring in the Adamstal district has already been closed and will not be reactivated due to the high cost of repairs and the decommissioning of its water supply line.
The permanent shutdown of the Platter Straße spring is a result of vandalism-related damage and cost considerations. Residents are advised to stay informed about the closure, with a formal notification set for November 17.
