Wiesbadenâs Christmas marred by thefts and violent clashes in holiday chaos
A series of crimes and a violent dispute disrupted the Christmas holiday in Wiesbaden. On December 24 and 25, thieves targeted cars and homes across the city. Then, on December 26, a clash during public celebrations forced police to intervene with a large-scale operation.
The troubles began on Christmas Eve when unknown offenders broke into underground garages in central Wiesbaden. They stole license plates and wheels from multiple vehicles, including an Opel Corsa on Simeonweg and an Audi A2 and Mercedes AMG on SchĂśnaustraĂe. The stolen items included the plates 'WI-SN 819' and 'WI-RD 222', along with summer tyres and rims. The damage ran into several thousand euros.
On Christmas Day, burglars entered an apartment in the city centre. They took cash and jewellery before fleeing the scene. The situation escalated on December 26 during a public gathering. A physical fight broke out between four people, while others shouted and argued nearby. Police arrived in force, shutting down the event and issuing exclusion orders. Those involved now face criminal charges. Throughout these incidents, responsibility for policing in Wiesbaden remained with the Hessisches Polizeipräsidium Westhessen. Despite discussions about restructuring, no new authority has taken over. Plans continue for relocating key police units, including the Hessische Polizeipräsidium fßr Technik and Einsatz, to a new central site at Petersweg.
The holiday period in Wiesbaden saw a spike in thefts and a violent confrontation that required police intervention. Criminal proceedings have been launched against those involved in the altercation. Meanwhile, the cityâs police structure remains unchanged, with operations still under the Hessisches Polizeipräsidium Westhessen.
