Wiesbaden's Bus Network Grinds to a Halt After Heavy Snowfall
Heavy snowfall struck Wiesbaden early on Monday, January 12, causing major delays across the city's bus network. Multiple routes faced cancellations and disruptions as overnight snow blanketed roads and stops. Transit operator ESWE Verkehr urged passengers to check real-time updates before setting off. The snow began falling late Sunday, leaving many routes struggling by dawn. Lines 4, 5, 8, 14, 18, 20, 21, 22, 24, 26, 33, 34, 39, and 46 all experienced delays or missed stops. Stops in higher areas, especially on the city's outskirts, became particularly hard to reach.
ESWE Verkehr focused on keeping passengers and staff safe while working non-stop to clear snow and restore services. By around 9 a.m., most of the network was back to normal. However, some restrictions remained in the Sonnenberg district even after the all-clear. Throughout the morning, travellers were advised to use the transit app or digital timetables for the latest route information.
The snow-related delays eased by mid-morning, but pockets of disruption lingered in certain areas. ESWE Verkehr confirmed that safety measures and round-the-clock efforts helped restore most services. Passengers were reminded to stay updated on any further changes.
