Wiesbaden Unveils Bold Plan for Climate-Neutral Heating by 2045

Wiesbaden's municipal heat plan has been finalised and is now open for public feedback. The strategy outlines how the city will shift to climate-neutral heating by 2045. Officials stress that the transition must remain reliable, swift, and affordable for all residents.

The draft was created with input from ESWE Versorgungs AG, local stakeholders, and external consultants. Three possible pathways were assessed, with the preferred option focusing on cost efficiency and flexible technology choices. ESWE CEO Jörg Höhler highlighted the need for practical steps, such as laying new pipes and connecting buildings to the updated system.

Residents can examine the full plan, including inventory reports, potential analyses, and zoning maps. The consultation period runs from January 27 to March 1, 2023. Feedback can be submitted at the Environmental Office or through the city's online participation platform.

The finalised plan also includes an action catalogue and target visions. It aims to give clear guidance to homeowners, housing associations, and energy providers on future heating standards.

The public now has until March 1 to share opinions on the proposed measures. Once finalised, the plan will set the framework for Wiesbaden's heating infrastructure over the next two decades. City officials will use the feedback to refine the strategy before full implementation begins.
