Wiesbaden shuts down ticket machines to avoid New Year’s Eve vandalism

Wiesbaden will shut down its public transport ticket machines over New Year’s Eve to prevent vandalism. The move aims to protect the devices from firework damage during celebrations. Passengers will need to use alternative ways to buy tickets.

The temporary closure begins on Tuesday, December 30, affecting machines in the city’s outer districts. By New Year’s Eve, all ticket machines across Wiesbaden will be out of service. No public locations for ticket purchases have been listed in official sources.

Passengers can still pay for tickets on buses using contactless methods. Debit cards, credit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay will all be accepted. Those who prefer cash can buy tickets in advance at designated sales points around the city.

The shutdown will last through New Year’s Day to reduce the risk of firework-related damage. Travellers must plan ahead or use cash-free options to board buses. The measure applies only to ticket machines, leaving other payment methods available.
