Wiesbaden rolls out two ways to recycle your Christmas trees in January
Wiesbaden residents can now dispose of their Christmas trees through two collection schemes. Youth fire brigades will pick up trees in most districts on January 10, while the city’s waste services will handle collections from January 12 to 23. Both options require trees to meet specific size rules and be free of decorations.
The first collection takes place on Saturday, January 10, when local youth fire brigades visit many neighbourhoods. Residents must leave their trees at the curb by 6:00 AM on that day. However, Bierstadt and Sonnenberg will not take part in this round.
For those who miss the January 10 pickup—or live in excluded areas—Wiesbaden Municipal Waste Services (ELW) will collect trees from January 12 to 23. Each property has one assigned day, marked with a Christmas tree icon in the waste calendar. Trees must not exceed three metres in length or 15 centimetres in trunk diameter. Residents can also drop off trees earlier at recycling centres or the small waste transfer station. All decorations, including tinsel and lights, must be removed before disposal. After collection, the trees will be composted.
The scheme offers two ways to recycle natural Christmas trees. Youth brigades cover most districts on January 10, while the city’s waste service runs until January 23. Trees left at the curb must follow size and preparation rules to qualify for collection.
