Wiesbaden hosts free event on securing your future health decisions

An information event on advance care planning will take place in Wiesbaden next spring. Organised by the city, it aims to help residents prepare for future decisions about their health and legal matters. The session will cover how to combine advance directives and powers of attorney effectively.

The event is scheduled for Monday, April 20, 2026, at 6:00 PM in the New Town Hall. Speakers Jutta Meth and Susanne Roßnagel will lead the discussion, explaining key topics in straightforward terms. Their focus will be on how to draft clear documents that reflect personal wishes.

Advance directives outline which medical treatments someone wants or refuses. However, these documents may not address every possible scenario. A lasting power of attorney, on the other hand, appoints a trusted person to make decisions if someone becomes unable to do so themselves. Without such preparations, courts may step in to assign a guardian. This process can cause delays and disagreements among family members. A guardianship declaration can also be used to name a preferred guardian in advance, providing additional security. Registration for the event is now open. Interested participants can sign up by calling (0611) 31-3740 or emailing [email protected].

The session will offer practical guidance on securing personal autonomy in later life. Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of how to document their wishes and avoid legal complications. Proper planning ensures that decisions remain in trusted hands, even when someone can no longer express them.
