Wiesbaden braces for two years of traffic chaos at key intersection
Major roadworks will soon disrupt traffic at the Schiersteiner Straße and Waldstraße intersection in Wiesbaden. Hessenwasser GmbH is renewing the water pipeline, with construction set to begin on Tuesday, March 24. The project will last until mid-April 2026, causing significant changes to local traffic flow.
The first phase of traffic adjustments starts earlier, on Thursday, March 19. At that point, drivers will no longer be able to exit Waldstraße onto Schiersteiner Straße. The entry and exit from Waldstraße toward Holzstraße (Dotzheim) will also close completely to all vehicles and cyclists. However, motorists coming from the city-outbound direction can still turn into Waldstraße toward Biebrich.
Once full construction begins, only one lane in each direction will stay open at the intersection. Authorities warn of heavy congestion and urge drivers to avoid the area if possible. Residents of Biebrich, Dotzheim, and Schierstein are advised to use alternative routes, including the A643 motorway, the B42 federal road, and local bypasses such as Nesslerstraße and Mainzer Straße. The second city ring road (2. Stadtring) is also recommended as a detour option.
The water main renewal work will run for over two years, finishing in April 2026. With lanes reduced and key turns blocked, traffic delays are expected throughout the construction period. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and use the suggested detours to minimise disruption.
