Wiesbaden bids farewell to five icons who shaped its culture and history

The city of Wiesbaden mourned the loss of several notable figures in 2025. Among them were a beloved restaurateur, a respected publisher, a former politician, and a well-known actor. Their contributions left a lasting mark on the local community.

Miroslav 'Miro' Aleksic, the owner of Pizzeria Miro, passed away at the age of 73. He had run the popular eatery on Röderstraße since 1982. A commemorative plaque was later placed at the restaurant in his honour.

Dieter Breuer, the longtime publisher of the Erbenheimer Anzeiger, died at 88. His work played a key role in shaping Wiesbaden’s media landscape over many years.

Former Hessian Minister of Justice Christean Wagner also died in 2025, aged 82. He served in office from 1999 to 2005 and received prestigious awards, including the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Hessian Order of Merit.

Actor Horst Janson, famous for his roles in Salto Mortale and Der Bastian, passed away at 89. His career spanned decades, earning him recognition in German television.

Ulf Glasenhardt, a cultural figure linked to clubs in Mainz and Wiesbaden, died unexpectedly. As events coordinator at Schon Schön, he was a familiar presence in the local arts scene.

The deaths of these five individuals marked the end of an era for Wiesbaden. Their work in food, media, politics, and entertainment shaped the city’s identity. Memorials and tributes have since honoured their legacies.
