Wetzlar Police Probe Two Violent Knife Attacks Near Train Station in January

Police in Wetzlar are investigating two violent incidents that took place on January 24, 2026. One victim was threatened with a knife near the train station, while another, a 16-year-old boy, suffered serious injuries in a separate attack. Authorities have yet to confirm a motive or identify any witnesses publicly as of January 28, 2026.

The first assault occurred near Hausertorstraße, where a man was confronted by three teenagers, believed to be aged between 12 and 16. They stole his mobile phone before fleeing the scene. Shortly afterwards, a second victim was threatened with a knife close to the train station and forced to surrender valuables.

A manhunt followed, leading to the arrest of two suspects, aged 16 and 18. Officers found pepper spray in their possession. However, both were later released due to insufficient evidence to justify detention. Meanwhile, a 16-year-old boy was seriously injured in another attack and required hospital treatment. Investigators are now urging anyone who witnessed suspicious activity between the train station and the Forum, including near Rosengärtchen park, to come forward.

As of January 28, no witnesses have been publicly named, and the motive behind the attacks remains unclear. Police continue to gather information while appealing for anyone with details to contact them.
