Wetterau district faces break-ins and scams—but one cop’s kindness stole hearts

A series of break-ins and a rise in phone scams have put residents in the Wetterau district on alert. Between December 3 and 9, burglars targeted homes in Butzbach and Bad Vilbel, while police also warned of fraudsters impersonating officers. Meanwhile, a heartwarming moment unfolded when a police officer cared for a lost dachshund after a traffic accident last month.

On November 15, a French driver was injured in a crash on the A5 near Pohlheim. Her dachshund survived unscathed but needed temporary care. An officer from the Autobahnpolizei Butzbach took the dog in after his shift, even letting it stay overnight at the station. The next day, he reunited the pet with its relieved owner.

The Wetterau district faces ongoing security challenges, from break-ins to sophisticated phone scams. Police continue to investigate the incidents while reminding residents to stay vigilant. Anyone with details about the burglaries or fraud attempts is encouraged to come forward.
