Werra-Meißner District Sees Spike in Crime: Hit-and-Runs, Vandalism, and Theft

A busy week in the Werra-Meißner district saw several incidents, including hit-and-run accidents, vandalism, and theft. The police are seeking witnesses and have made arrests in some cases.

On Tuesday, a blue VW Passat was involved in two hit-and-run incidents. The first occurred in Wanfried-Aue around 12:00 PM, with the car fleeing the scene. The second incident happened in Wehretal-Hoheneiche, damaging a green Kia Ceed. The police in Eschwege are appealing for witnesses in both cases.

In Eschwege, traffic police detected 103 speeding violations in a 30 km/h zone near an evangelical kindergarten. Meanwhile, a 36-year-old woman from Witzenhausen caused minor damage to a parked car while parking at the tegut-Markt.

Vandalism was reported in Fürstenhagen, where unknown perpetrators drew swastikas on a desk chair with a permanent marker. In Hessisch Lichtenau, a break-in resulted in the theft of a safe containing cash and jewelry, causing 300 euros in property damage.

Two youths, aged 14 and 15, were arrested in Eschwege for using symbols of unconstitutional and terrorist organizations and inciting the people.

The police are urging anyone with information about the hit-and-run incidents or other crimes to come forward. The district continues to address issues of speeding, vandalism, and theft, with investigations ongoing.
