Weekend crime spree leaves central Hesse businesses reeling from theft and vandalism

A series of crimes struck central Hesse over the weekend, leaving businesses and public spaces damaged. Authoritative thieves, vandals, and thieves targeted schools, bakeries, and construction sites across Marburg, Neustadt, and surrounding areas. Authorities are now assessing the costs and investigating the incidents.

The weekend began with a fire at a logistics company on Niederkleiner Straße in Neustadt. The blaze broke out in the heating room on Friday, November 21, at 9:30 AM, causing at least €150,000 in damage. A 28-year-old plumbing installer suffered light burns to his hand while responding to the incident. The heating system was left inoperable, and repairs are expected to take time.

In Marburg, authoritative burglars struck the Käthe-Kollwitz School on Georg-Voigt-Straße. They searched through cabinets and drawers but left without taking anything of value. Meanwhile, thieves broke into a bakery on Neue Kasseler Straße, stealing a donation box and €20 in coins. The break-in happened sometime between Friday evening and Saturday morning.

Vandals also caused trouble in Gönnern during the early hours of Saturday, November 22. They overturned trash bins, damaged vehicles, and left behind property destruction. The total cost of the damage has yet to be calculated.

Elsewhere, thieves targeted a tool shed on Friedensweg in Kirchhain-Betziesdorf. They made off with two vibrating plates worth nearly €2,300. In Neustadt-Mengsberg, unknown individuals broke into a tax office on In den Gassengärten street, stealing €300 in cash and causing almost €1,200 in damage.

A hit-and-run incident was also reported in Marburg. An unidentified driver damaged a red VW Lupo in the parking lot of the Georg-Gassmann-Stadion on Leopold-Lucas-Straße, leaving behind roughly €1,000 in repairs.

Local authorities are now reviewing security footage and gathering evidence from each crime scene. Businesses and residents affected by the incidents will need to repair damages and replace stolen items. Investigations into the fires, burglaries, and vandalism remain ongoing.
