Weekend crime spree and overloaded truck disrupt Wetzlar and Braunfels
A series of minor crimes and traffic violations occurred across Wetzlar and Braunfels over the weekend. Authorities dealt with an overloaded truck on the A45, while local police reported incidents of vandalism and attempted burglary in the area.
On the A45 motorway, a truck was stopped after being found nearly 3,000 kilograms over its 40,000-kilogram limit. The vehicle weighed almost 43,000 kilograms, requiring a second truck to legally transport the load. The driver lacked the proper special permit for that route and should have taken an authorised alternative. As a result, the freight company was fined a €4,200 security deposit, and the driver was barred from continuing the journey. No specific records for overloaded trucks on the A45 in Hessen exist in recent police reports, though nationwide data from 2024 shows over 16,000 violations out of 146,000 checks.
In Wetzlar, a pharmacy at Neustädter Platz was targeted by burglars over the weekend. The suspects attempted to force open the front door, causing around €200 in damage. Meanwhile, an unknown person scratched a gray Seat Sportstourer between Sunday evening and Monday morning, leaving roughly €800 in repairs. Earlier, on Friday morning in Braunfels, a red Nissan Micra parked near number 4 on Wintersburgstraße was damaged in a hit-and-run, with estimated costs of €6,500.
The incidents highlight ongoing challenges with traffic violations and petty crime in the region. The overloaded truck case resulted in immediate penalties, while local police continue to investigate the vandalism and burglary attempts. No arrests have been reported so far.
