Wave of violent crimes and vandalism shocks Germany’s Main-Kinzig district

Several disturbing incidents have been reported across the Main-Kinzig district over the past week. Police are investigating a series of assaults, vandalism, and theft, with multiple cases involving young suspects and violent confrontations.

Authorities have appealed for witnesses in several ongoing cases, including a hit-and-run, a knife attack, and a theft of firewood worth hundreds of euros.

On Tuesday morning, a 14-year-old boy was assaulted on a pedestrian bridge in Kinzigstraße, Hanau. The attack happened at around 9:30 a.m., when the suspect—believed to be another teenager from Hanau—punched and kicked the victim before threatening him with a utility knife. The boy suffered cuts to his lip, palm, and forehead. Police suspect the attacker may have followed the victim after they both got off a bus.

Later that same evening, two girls in Großauheim, Hanau, were threatened by two boys wielding an object that looked like a firearm. Witnesses described the suspects as around 1.70 meters tall—one with short black hair and a mustache, the other slim with blonde hair. In a separate incident on Friday, January 9, a hit-and-run took place in the parking lot of a supermarket on Dieselstraße, Erlensee. The collision occurred at approximately 3:25 p.m., though no injuries were reported. Meanwhile, in Bad Orb, an unknown driver damaged the side mirror of a parked ambulance on Ludwig-Schmank-Straße. The vehicle was attending an emergency at the time, and police are now searching for witnesses. Vandalism was also reported between Gelnhausen-Meerholz and Gründau-Rothenbergen, where offenders spray-painted a red swastika on a high-voltage box. The incident is being treated as a hate crime. Finally, between January 13 and 19, thieves stole around 3.5 tons of firewood from a forest near Neuberg. The stolen logs were valued at several hundred euros, and investigators are looking into possible leads.

Police continue to investigate each case, urging anyone with information to come forward. The incidents span multiple towns, including Hanau, Erlensee, Bad Orb, and Neuberg, with some involving violent confrontations and property damage. Witnesses or those with relevant details are encouraged to contact local authorities immediately.
