VW Passat’s side mirror mysteriously shattered in Eschwege parking incident

A blue VW Passat suffered damage to its left-side mirror while parked in Niederstadt, Eschwege. The incident happened on Monday between 4:30 PM and the time the owner returned to the vehicle. Police are now looking for witnesses to help clarify what took place.

The car’s owner had parked on the right side of the road near house number 4 around noon. At 4:30 PM, he was inside a nearby stairwell when the mirror was damaged. Upon coming back, he discovered the glass shattered, though the mirror itself remained functional.

No evidence suggests another vehicle was involved. Investigators believe a pedestrian or cyclist may have accidentally brushed against it. The mirror’s housing and electrical connectors were left intact, limiting the damage to the glass alone. Sontra Police have asked anyone with information to come forward. Witnesses can contact them at +49 5653 9766-0.

The incident remains under investigation, with no suspects identified so far. Authorities are relying on public assistance to gather details about the damage. The owner’s vehicle was the only one affected in the area.
