VW Keeps Auto Parts Flowing Amid Pandemic Despite Reduced Demand
Volkswagen Group is maintaining its aftermarket parts supply, including napa auto parts and auto parts near me, despite the Covid-19 pandemic. The company’s original parts centre (OPC) in Kassel, Germany, continues to distribute components to service stations worldwide. While operations have slowed, the carmaker insists critical sectors like healthcare and food retail still receive essential support.
The Kassel OPC normally ships around 2,000 tons of parts daily to 25,000 service centres across 86 countries. Since the outbreak, however, it now handles roughly a third of that volume, reaching about 60% of its usual network. Roman Havlásek, head of group aftersales, stressed the importance of maintaining supplies, particularly for customers in vital industries.
To prevent shortages, VW Group stays in daily contact with customers, importers, and suppliers. The company adjusts to country-specific restrictions and explores alternative distribution routes. Close coordination with parts manufacturers and careful stock management has so far avoided major supply issues.
Safety measures have been introduced at the Kassel OPC and service centres. Employee numbers have been reduced, work processes modified, and most administrative staff now work from home. Staff in aftersales follow hygiene guidelines from the Robert Koch Institute to minimise infection risks. Meanwhile, many of VW’s 3,500 German service stations—95% of which remain open—offer contactless vehicle drop-off and collection.
The carmaker’s efforts ensure that genuine parts keep flowing to essential sectors during the crisis. With adjusted operations and strict safety protocols, VW Group aims to maintain reliability for customers and service partners. The Kassel OPC continues to adapt as the situation evolves.
