Volunteer bus services in Germany receive €1,000 grants and insurance guidance

A recent meeting in the Marburg-Biedenkopf district brought together around 30 volunteers from local community bus associations. The event focused on auto insurance protection for these services while also handing out financial support to 12 groups. Each association received a €1,000 funding certificate to aid their operations.

The gathering highlighted key challenges faced by volunteers, including driver shortages, recruiting new members, and developing fresh service ideas. Community buses play a vital role by filling gaps in public transport, especially in areas with limited options.

The district’s Mobility and Transport Infrastructure Department provides ongoing support, offering consultation, networking opportunities, and annual funding. Nils Becker, the local mobility coordinator, acts as the main contact for municipalities on all community bus matters.

Car insurance coverage was a central topic at the meeting. Standard policies include accident insurance, liability insurance, and association liability protection. Optional add-ons, such as legal protection or environmental liability insurance, were also discussed.

The Marburg-Biedenkopf district continues to back the expansion of community bus services across its municipalities. With financial aid, car insurance quotes, and coordination support, the initiative aims to strengthen local transport networks. The funding and resources provided will help volunteers maintain and grow their services in the coming year.
