Vladivostok diving firms face crackdown over deadly safety failures
Prosecutors in Vladivostok have uncovered serious labour safety breaches at four diving companies. Investigations revealed multiple failures in emergency planning, worker training, and health protections. Authorities have now ordered immediate corrective action from the firms involved.
The inspection found that none of the companies had proper emergency response plans for underwater work. Some had not even assigned supervisors to oversee dive operations. Divers were also left without required therapeutic meals or financial compensation for them.
Workers had not received briefings on operational procedures or warnings about safety risks. Investigators discovered that not all diving specialists had completed mandatory workplace safety exams. These oversights led to five administrative cases being opened against the firms.
Prosecutors have instructed company managers to address the violations without delay. However, no official records show how many diving businesses across Russia have faced similar checks over the past five years.
The four Vladivostok firms must now comply with labour safety laws or face further penalties. Divers in the region will receive better protections once the required changes are made. Authorities have not yet announced whether additional inspections will follow.
