Violent robbery attempt and street brawl shock two German towns in one day
Two unknown men attempted to rob a resident in Stangenrod, Grünberg, on Tuesday morning. The incident left one victim injured and without his phone. Police are now investigating the case as aggravated assault and searching for witnesses.
In a separate event, a street brawl broke out near Löbershof and the market square in Gießen later that same afternoon. Witnesses reported five men fleeing the scene, though no arrests have been made so far.
The robbery attempt in Stangenrod began when two suspects knocked on the victim's door. One engaged the homeowner in conversation while the other searched the living areas for valuables. The resident, growing suspicious, managed to detain one of the men at the door. Both suspects then fled empty-handed.
During the struggle, the victim suffered injuries and had his phone stolen. Police described the suspects as having darker skin tones and driving a black Audi. Authorities are now checking whether this incident links to a recent rise in fraudulent calls in the Grünberg area.
Later that day, a separate altercation erupted in Gießen. Multiple men clashed near Löbershof and the market square. Witnesses saw five men of North African descent, dressed in dark clothing, running towards Kirchenplatz. Police have yet to identify those involved.
Investigations into both incidents are ongoing. Officers are appealing for anyone with information about the two men in Stangenrod or the black Audi to come forward. They are also seeking details on the Gießen brawl, including potential witnesses or footage.
The Stangenrod victim remains injured, and his stolen phone has not been recovered. Police continue to examine possible connections between the attempted robbery and the surge in fraud calls. Meanwhile, the Gießen street brawl remains under investigation, with no arrests reported so far.
