Violent crimes and scams surge as black Audi R8 linked to robbery attempt

Police in the Grünberg and Gießen areas are investigating two violent incidents and a rise in fraudulent activity. A street brawl in Gießen left one person injured, while an attempted robbery in Stangenrod saw suspects flee in a black Audi R8. Authorities are also probing a possible link between recent scam calls and the break-in attempt.

A violent altercation broke out near Löbershof and the market square in Gießen. Five men of North African descent, dressed in dark clothing, attacked a victim before stealing their phone. The group then fled towards Kirchenplatz. The victim suffered injuries, and police are treating the case as aggravated assault.

In a separate incident, two unknown men targeted a homeowner in Stangenrod, Grünberg. One suspect distracted the resident while the other searched the house. The homeowner managed to detain one attacker, but both escaped in a black Audi R8 without taking anything. Witnesses described the suspects as having darker skin tones.

Meanwhile, local authorities have noted a surge in fraudulent calls across Grünberg. A December 2025 report highlighted a false bank employee scam, and investigators are examining whether it connects to the attempted robbery. Police are urging anyone with information about the black Audi R8 or the suspects to come forward.

No official figures on recent crime rates in the region have been released, but investigations into both violent and fraud-related cases remain active.

The two incidents have prompted police to seek witnesses and gather further evidence. The black Audi R8 and the suspects' descriptions are key to the ongoing inquiries. Residents are advised to stay vigilant against potential scams and report any suspicious activity.
