Violent A5 motorway crash leaves driver with life-threatening injuries
A severe crash on the A5 motorway left a 29-year-old man with life-threatening injuries on Sunday afternoon. The accident, which took place near the Fuchsbuckel service area, caused major traffic disruptions as emergency services responded to the scene.
The collision happened at around 1:39 p.m. between the Heppenheim and Hemsbach junctions. The driver, a Frankfurt resident, lost control of his vehicle, hitting the central barrier before flipping multiple times and crashing into a tree. Paramedics provided immediate treatment at the site before airlifting him to hospital for further care.
All three southbound lanes were initially shut down after the crash. Authorities later reopened the left lane, though the right lane stayed closed for investigation and debris clearance. Early estimates place the total damage from the incident at no less than €30,000.
The injured man remains under medical supervision following the violent impact. Traffic delays persisted for hours as crews worked to clear the wreckage and restore normal flow. Investigators continue examining the cause of the accident.
