Vienna's 1st District Inspections Reveal Labor, Social Security Violations in Hotel Sector

Recent inspections in Vienna's 1. Bezirk have revealed numerous cases of labor and social security violations in the hotel and gastronomy sector. These inspections, which began in 2025, uncovered various offenses, including illegal residence, working without permits, wage withholding, and misuse of social security benefits.

A total of 12 individuals were found living illegally in Germany. Additionally, 3 cases of working without valid permits were discovered. The inspections also revealed 2 cases of suspected wage withholding and misappropriation, and 7 cases of suspected misuse of social security benefits.

The inspections targeted 4 businesses, with 24 employees checked. Among the violations found were 3 related to the prescribed immediate notification of employment relationships and 4 suspected cases of minimum wage law violations. Extensive follow-up inspections are planned to further uncover and penalize any labor and social security regulation violations.

The recent inspections in Vienna's hotel and gastronomy sector have underscored the importance of the Financial Control Schwarzarbeit in preventing illegal employment relationships and ensuring legal compliance. With high employment figures and minimum wage regulations in the sector, these inspections are crucial for maintaining a fair and safe work environment.
