Vandalism surge in Bad Hersfeld leaves memorials and property damaged
Bad Hersfeld has seen a spate of vandalism incidents over the weekend. Police are investigating several cases, including the destruction of a memorial plaque at Schiller-Platz and the theft of a license plate from a moped.
The weekend began with a theft in Ersrode. A wallet was taken from a Renault Clio parked on Rengshäuser Straße on Saturday afternoon. Meanwhile, in Bad Hersfeld, a license plate '706 NLT' was stolen from a Talaria moped on Gerwigstraße between 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM on Friday.
The following day, a floral tribute and memorial plaque on Schiller Square were found destroyed. The estimated damage is €100. Around the same time, blue paint was sprayed on the emergency exit door of a shoe store on Heinrich-von-Stephan-Straße and a nearby utility box, causing approximately €300 in damage. The incidents were discovered around 7:05 PM on Saturday.
Police are treating these incidents seriously and are investigating them as potential cases of incitement to hatred and criminal damage. Anyone with information is urged to come forward. The community is reminded to report any suspicious activity to local authorities.
