UNRWA Urges Israel to Lift Gaza Blockade as Famine Looms

UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini has urged Israel to lift its blockade on the Gaza Strip, as over 110 aid organisations join the call. The humanitarian crisis in the enclave, home to over two million Palestinians, has reached catastrophic levels, with famine a growing concern.

The Israeli blockade has led to severe humanitarian conditions, with Lazzarini hoping to address the famine and suffering. He seeks additional access for international UNRWA staff to provide aid and alleviate the crisis. The commissioner-general sees momentum for a permanent ceasefire in Israel's Gaza Strip, despite the ongoing conflict that has resulted in 67,074 fatalities and 169,430 injuries since 2008.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) has been calling for the lifting of the Israeli arms embargo on Gaza and improved access for its staff. The agency aims to provide vital assistance to Palestinians and ease the humanitarian crisis.

UNRWA and 111 aid organisations demand the lifting of the Israeli blockade on Gaza to address the famine and alleviate the suffering of its residents. With momentum for a permanent ceasefire, the international community hopes to see improved humanitarian access and an end to the conflict's devastating toll in Israel's Gaza Strip.
