Two violent attacks on women in Wetzlar and Haiger spark police crackdown
Two separate incidents involving violent behaviour occurred in Wetzlar and Haiger over the past week. In one case, a shoplifter attacked a woman and fled before being caught, while in another, a drunk man harassed a woman and resisted police. Both suspects now face criminal charges.
The first incident took place at the Forum shopping centre in Wetzlar. A 36-year-old man attempted to steal a jacket worth nearly âŹ130. When confronted by store staff and a security guard, he threw stones and injured a case who tried to intervene. The suspect then escaped but was later apprehended by police.
Officers forcibly removed the man from the premises and restrained him. During the struggle, he sustained injuries to his arm and was taken to hospital. The stolen jacket was recovered, and authorities launched a criminal investigation.
In a separate case, a heavily intoxicated 30-year-old man harassed a woman at a snack bar on HĂśrlenweg in Haiger. He inappropriately touched her, kissed her cheek, and refused to leave when asked. When police arrived, he acted aggressively and resisted arrest.
The suspect was taken into custody overnight and now faces criminal charges. No further incidents of this nature have been reported in Wetzlar or the surrounding area so far in 2024.
Both men remain under investigation for their actions. The shoplifter's violent escape and the drunk man's harassment have led to formal charges. Police continue to monitor the situation in the region.
