Two trucks collide on A67 near Pfungstadt, causing fire and highway shutdown

Two trucks collided on the A67 near Pfungstadt early Friday, causing significant damage and injuries. The crash led to the closure of the highway during morning hours.

The incident occurred around 2:47 AM when a 57-year-old driver had to brake sharply due to traffic congestion. Unfortunately, this caused a 40-year-old driver to crash into the rear of the other truck. The impact severely damaged the truck’s cab, trapping the driver inside and preventing him from exiting on his own. The cab caught fire, and bystanders along with responding police officers attempted to free the driver but were unsuccessful until firefighters extinguished the blaze.

Both drivers were taken to nearby hospitals. The passenger managed to leave the cab unassisted. The total damage is estimated at €100,000.

The A67 was completely closed during the morning hours following the crash. The 40-year-old driver was later arrested at his workplace in Lampertheim on Friday.
