Two New Year car incidents shake Vogelsberg with hit-and-run and rollover crash
Two separate incidents involving parked or moving vehicles occurred in the Vogelsberg region over the New Year period. In one case, a young driver lost control of her car, while in another, a parked vehicle was damaged by an unknown driver who fled the scene. Neither incident resulted in serious injuries.
On December 27, a 49-year-old man parked his Dacia Duster in a holiday village car park in Herbstein. When he returned two days later, he discovered damage to the left front fender. The vehicle had sustained around €1,500 in repairs, but the responsible party had left without reporting the collision.
Early on January 1, a 19-year-old woman was driving an Audi A3 Sportback near the Am Taufstein car park in Breungeshain. As she attempted to turn right onto a state road, the car slid down an embankment, rolled over, and landed upside down. The vehicle suffered roughly €7,000 in damage, though the driver walked away unharmed.
The Dacia’s owner reported the hit-and-run to local authorities, while the Audi driver’s crash remains under investigation. Both incidents highlight the risks of winter driving and unaccounted collisions in the region.
