Two German cities unite to launch a new energy network company in 2024

Two local energy providers are joining forces to create a new network company. Stadtwerke Dreieich and Stadtwerke Neu-Isenburg will launch Stadtwerke-Netzdienste Dreieich und Neu-Isenburg GmbH next year. The move aims to strengthen local supply networks and support the ongoing energy transition. The joint venture will officially begin operations on January 1, 2024. Based at Eisenbahnstraße 140 in Dreieich, the new company will start with around 75 employees. It will manage network operations, planning, and infrastructure for electricity, gas, water, and heating, along with water extraction, metering, and technical support.

Both cities will hold equal shares in the new business. Uwe Hildebrandt, currently technical director at Stadtwerke Neu-Isenburg, and Denis Wiesner, technical director at Stadtwerke Dreieich, will lead the venture as co-managing directors. Their combined experience will guide the company's strategy. The partnership seeks to pool resources for long-term investment in local networks. By expanding infrastructure and workforce capacity, the venture plans to meet future energy demands. Customers of both utilities will continue receiving high-quality supply while benefiting from faster progress in renewable energy adoption. While exact figures are not publicly available, industry reports suggest a growing trend of similar collaborations among smaller and mid-sized German utilities. Dozens of partnerships have formed in recent years, though definitions and data collection vary by source.

The new company will focus on modernising and expanding supply networks. Operations will start in early 2024, with a clear goal of ensuring reliable services for both cities. The joint effort reflects a broader shift in Germany's energy sector toward shared, future-proof solutions.
