Two arrested after explosive cigarette machine heist in Rotenburg

Two men from Rotenburg an der Fulda were arrested after an explosion at a cigarette vending machine early on January 7, 2026. The blast happened at around 3 a.m. on Mündershäuser Straße, causing damage to the machine and a nearby car.

Witnesses reported seeing two individuals taking cigarettes from the damaged machine before fleeing the scene. Police later identified and arrested the suspects, aged 23 and 33, both residents of Rotenburg an der Fulda. Their names have not been released.

Authorities searched the suspects’ homes and collected further evidence. The explosion resulted in an estimated €6,000 worth of property damage to the vending machine and a parked car. The two men now face multiple charges, including causing an explosion with explosives, aggravated theft, and criminal damage. Police have confirmed that investigations into the incident are still ongoing.

The arrested pair remain in custody while the case continues. The explosion caused significant damage, and further legal steps will follow. Authorities have not ruled out additional arrests or charges as the probe develops.
