Twelve German Municipalities Unite to Strengthen Regional Cybersecurity Defenses
Twelve municipalities and Groß-Gerau District have joined forces to bolster cybersecurity, launching an intermunicipal project in February 2023. Led by Rüsselsheim am Main, the alliance aims to enhance information security across the region.
The project, initiated by Marion Götz, head of the cybersecurity steering group, revealed the benefits of intermunicipal cooperation. It identified significant advantages in effectively fulfilling cybersecurity responsibilities through future collaboration.
The intermunicipal working group has already developed immediate measures to strengthen cybersecurity. These include a Municipal Cybersecurity Strategy, awareness training, emergency protocols, and staff sensitization campaigns. An intermunicipal cybersecurity office will be established within Groß-Gerau District's administration by autumn, with operations expected to begin by the end of the year.
The alliance comprises Biebesheim am Rhein, Bischofsheim, Büttelborn, Gernsheim, Ginsheim-Gustavsburg, Groß-Gerau, Mörfelden-Walldorf, Nauheim, Raunheim, Riedstadt, Rüsselsheim, Stockstadt am Rhein, and Groß-Gerau District. The state of Hesse is actively supporting this initiative, providing expert support and funding.
