Turkish Fugitive Arrested in Frankfurt Over Child Abuse Charges

A 43-year-old Turkish man was arrested at Frankfurt Airport on 22 January 2026 after an international warrant was issued for serious crimes. Turkish authorities had sought his detention since January 2025 on charges of child sexual abuse and unlawful deprivation of liberty. German police acted on a tip-off to detain him upon arrival.

The suspect was taken into provisional custody immediately after landing in Frankfurt. A search revealed a nine-centimetre blade knife in his possession. He was then transferred to the Frankfurt District Court for judicial proceedings.

The man already had a criminal record in Germany, including convictions for blackmail and document forgery. Classified as a drug user, he now faces extradition to Turkey, where a prison sentence of eight years and 14 months awaits him. German Federal Police worked closely with Turkish authorities to carry out the arrest. The operation followed months of coordination after Turkey issued the international arrest warrant in early 2025.

The suspect remains in custody while legal proceedings continue. If extradited, he will serve his sentence in Turkey for the crimes listed in the warrant. The case highlights ongoing cross-border cooperation between German and Turkish law enforcement.
