Truck smashes into stationary car on A49 motorway, injuring mother and toddler

A serious rear-end collision took place on the A49 motorway near Niederklein on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. The crash involved a semi-truck and a passenger car, causing significant damage but no major traffic delays. Emergency services responded quickly to the scene at around 2:30 p.m.

The accident occurred when a truck struck a stationary car on the hard shoulder. Debris from the impact spread across both lanes of the motorway. The force of the collision damaged four sections of guardrail and left both vehicles heavily wrecked, with repair costs estimated at €53,000.

The car carried a 33-year-old woman from the Neuwied district and her two-year-old son. Both suffered minor injuries and were transported to Marburg University Hospital by ambulance. The truck driver, a 69-year-old Polish man working for a freight company in Bad Oynhausen, escaped unharmed.

The Autobahnpolizei Bad Hersfeld temporarily closed the left lane for investigation. Despite the severity of the crash, no major traffic disruptions were reported.

Authorities have not released further details on traffic conditions in the days following the incident. The investigation into the collision remains ongoing. No additional updates on the injured mother and child have been provided.
