A truck fire on the A3 near Frankfurt Rhine-Main Airport on Thursday afternoon caused significant traffic disruption. The cause of the blaze remains unknown.
The incident led to heavy traffic buildup in both directions and nearby routes. At its peak, the A3 had to be temporarily closed in the opposite direction towards WΓΌrzburg due to water from firefighting efforts spilling onto the roadway.
The left lane in the direction of Cologne remains closed, and another lane is expected to be shut later in the morning. This is to allow Autobahn GmbH, the federal motorway operator, to investigate and repair damaged asphalt. Drivers are advised to expect further delays in the area due to the aftermath of the truck fire.
The truck driver sustained minor injuries in the incident. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Motorists are urged to plan their journeys accordingly and follow any diversions or traffic management instructions.
