Truck driver caught going the wrong way on German highway
A truck driver was caught driving the wrong way on the A671 highway near Hochheim on Saturday afternoon. The 46-year-old Ukrainian man travelled at speeds of 70 to 80 km/h (43 to 50 mph) before police intervened. Authorities are now investigating the incident and seeking witnesses who may have been affected.
The incident began around 2:15 p.m. when the driver turned his truck around at the 'Alte Römerstraße' rest area. Instead of continuing in the correct direction, he headed back towards the Hochheim-Süd exit, driving against oncoming traffic.
The driver later told police he was unfamiliar with the area and had missed his intended exit. This mistake led him to reverse direction, putting other road users at risk. A breathalyser test confirmed he had not been drinking. No accidents were reported during the incident. However, officers confiscated the man’s driving licence and charged him with endangering road traffic. His identity has not been released, though police confirmed he is a 35-year-old man from Poland.
The driver now faces legal consequences for his actions. Police continue to appeal for witnesses who may have been forced to swerve or take evasive action. The investigation remains ongoing.
