Tragic Overtaking Accident Claims Life on B62 Near Friedewald
A tragic incident occurred on Sunday evening on the Bundesstraße 62 near Friedewald. A 34-year-old local driver lost control of his gray Ford Fiesta while attempting to overtake a black Volkswagen Passat, leading to a fatal accident. The driver, who was traveling from Unterneurode towards Friedewald, suddenly had to swerve right to avoid an oncoming vehicle, causing him to lose control of his car. The Ford Fiesta overturned, resulting in severe damage and an estimated material loss of €2,000. Despite immediate rescue efforts, the driver was ejected from the vehicle and succumbed to his injuries. The accident closed the B62 for approximately three and a half hours while emergency services worked to reconstruct the scene. Around 15 emergency responders were present, including firefighters from Friedewald, paramedics with an emergency physician, and two police patrol units. Fortunately, no other individuals were injured in the accident. The driver's family has been informed, and investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing. The local community extends its condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
