In the first eight months of 2023, the total value of contracts secured by major players in the industry plummeted by 16.8% compared to the same period last year, reaching approximately €1.44 billion. Burkhard Siebert, a key figure in the industry, has raised alarm bells about the situation.
The decline in contracts has left the industry in a state of crisis. Siebert, the managing director of the Hesse-Thuringia Construction Industry Association, has attributed this downturn to a lack of promised investment in infrastructure renewal and residential construction. He has called for reliable and timely federal, state, and municipal investments to help the struggling sector.
Siebert also highlighted the need for streamlined tendering and planning procedures. He believes that efficient processes could help boost the industry's fortunes and attract more contracts.
