Three injured as early-morning fire ravages logistics workers’ housing in Germany
A fire broke out early Sunday morning in a residential building in Neuenstein, part of the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district. The blaze started at around 1:35 AM on January 4, damaging an accommodation block used by employees of a local logistics firm. Three men were injured, and emergency services rushed to the scene to assist residents and control the flames.
The fire began in a ground-floor room shared by two men, aged 42 and 35, both from Eastern Europe. They suffered injuries and were later taken to hospital. A third resident, a 38-year-old also from Eastern Europe, helped pull the two men to safety but inhaled smoke in the process. All three injured individuals were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The building housed nine registered residents, all employees of the logistics company. After the fire, the remaining occupants were moved to alternative accommodations in the area. Firefighters, including around 40 personnel, arrived quickly, supported by four ambulances and an emergency doctor. Investigators from the Landeskriminalamt Hessen (LKA Hessen) and the Polizeipräsidium Schwalm-Eder-Mitte are now examining the cause. Two patrol units from Bad Hersfeld Police Station assisted in collecting evidence. Early estimates suggest the property damage totals around €15,000.
Authorities continue to probe the cause of the fire, with the East Hesse Criminal Police leading the inquiry. The injured men remain under medical care, while displaced residents stay in temporary housing. The logistics company’s accommodation block will require repairs before it can be used again.
