Thirty felines seized from a women's residence in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
In a recent development, a woman living in apartment No. 113 on Bering Street has surrendered more than 30 cats to the local animal protection service. The news, which has been circulating on social media, was met with concern from the community, but investigations have revealed no signs of animal cruelty.
Elena, a volunteer from the regional animal welfare organisation "Dobroe Serdtse", shared that the woman has a supportive family who assist in caring for the pets. Elena also mentioned that this wasn't a case of the woman being unable to care for the large number of cats.
Activists and the police visited the apartment in question, and veterinarians who attended found no signs of animal neglect. The apartment did not have a strong smell, indicating that the cats were not starving. It was also discovered that the woman had not sterilized or vaccinated the cats.
The woman, who allowed the authorities and activists into her home, expressed concern about the fate of her cats. Volunteers from "Kotofeevo" shelter and "Dobroe Serdtse" responded to the reports and helped the woman catch the cats.
Elena encouraged people who cannot walk by suffering animals to offer their help, but emphasized the importance of following necessary veterinary procedures. After the necessary procedures, some of the cats will be returned to the woman, while the rest will be placed in the shelter or adopted by new owners.
Elena also stressed the need for normal municipal shelters for abandoned cats and dogs. Until such shelters are available, concerned citizens can help by providing temporary homes for animals in their own houses.
Despite initial concerns, it appears that the woman in apartment No. 113 has acted responsibly in surrendering her cats to the shelter, easing tension with neighbours and ensuring necessary veterinary procedures are carried out. The community is urged to continue supporting animal welfare organisations like "Dobroe Serdtse" and "Kotofeevo" in their efforts to care for and rehome animals in need.
