Thieves strip catalytic converters from two Toyotas in Mörfelden-Walldorf overnight

Two Toyota cars in Mörfelden-Walldorf were targeted by thieves overnight into Monday, February 9. The criminals stole catalytic converters from both vehicles, causing an estimated €3,000 in total damage. Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward with any information.

The incident took place on Schwarzwaldstraße, where the two Toyotas were parked. Owners discovered the theft the following morning when they noticed parts missing from underneath their cars. This latest case adds to a growing trend in the region.

Over the past year, from February 2025 to February 2026, Hessian police recorded around 45 similar thefts. Most occurred in the districts of Groß-Gerau and Offenbach, with catalytic converters frequently targeted due to their valuable metals.

Authorities have urged anyone with details about the crime to contact the Criminal Investigation Department in Rüsselsheim (Precinct 21). They hope witnesses or nearby residents may have seen suspicious activity during the night.

The thefts bring the total number of catalytic converter crimes in the area to nearly 50 in just 12 months. Police continue to investigate, focusing on gathering evidence and tracking down those responsible. Vehicle owners are advised to remain vigilant and report any unusual behaviour near parked cars.
