Thai Airways’ 1973 Frankfurt Launch Expanded Its European Network

Frankfurt became a key stop for Thai Airways on 6 November 1973. The airline launched its first flight to the city, marking its third European destination after Copenhagen and London. This new route expanded the carrier’s global network to 24 locations worldwide.

The inaugural Thai Airways International service touched down at Frankfurt Rhein-Main Airport on that November day. Operated by a DC-8 aircraft, the flight ran once a week between Bangkok and Frankfurt. On the return leg, passengers made a stopover in Tehran before reaching the Thai capital.

The new Thai Airways route connected Bangkok with Frankfurt via a weekly service. It also reinforced the airline’s growing footprint in Europe. Passengers gained another option for travel between Germany and Thailand.
