Teenagers smash claw machine in Kassel, steal plush toys before turning themselves in

Two teenagers broke into a claw machine in Kassel on Wednesday afternoon, stealing seven plush toys. The incident took place at WilhelmshĂśher Allee, where the pair also damaged surveillance equipment. Police have since recovered the stolen items after one of the suspects turned himself in.

The break-in happened when the two boys, aged 14 and 16, smashed the glass of the vending machine. Frustrated after failing to win any toys, they forced their way inside and took seven stuffed animals. Before leaving, they tore down two surveillance cameras—though the crime had already been recorded.

The 14-year-old's mother later discovered the stolen toys in his backpack. She took him to the police, where he admitted to the theft and returned the items. Despite a public appeal, no other witnesses came forward. Both suspects now face charges of theft and criminal damage. The investigation remains ongoing under the North Hesse Police Headquarters, based at GrĂźner Weg 33 in Kassel.

The 14-year-old and his 16-year-old accomplice could be prosecuted for their actions. Police have confirmed the return of the stolen toys and continue to gather evidence. For further details, the press office can be reached at +49 561 910 1020–23.
