Teen steals a bus to drive girlfriend 130 km to school—then vanishes

A 15-year-old boy stole a bus from a depot in Wiesbaden last Friday to drive his girlfriend 130 kilometres to school. The vehicle was later found in Karlsruhe, but the teen had already disappeared. No injuries were reported during the unusual incident.

The bus went missing from the Nassauische Verkehrs-Gesellschaft (NVG) depot in Mainz-Kastel on Friday afternoon. Staff only realised it was gone later that day. Using tracking systems, they located the vehicle in Karlsruhe and sent employees to bring it back. The bus was returned undamaged, but the boy was nowhere to be found.

How the teenager obtained the keys remains unclear. ESWE Verkehrsgesellschaft, which operates NVG buses in Wiesbaden, has labelled the incident a crime rather than a harmless prank. Jörg Martini, the managing director of NVG, also stressed its seriousness. Local police in Mainz are now investigating the case. Authorities expect to release further details by the end of the week.

The stolen bus was recovered without damage, and no one was hurt. Police continue to search for the 15-year-old responsible. The investigation will determine whether charges will be filed.
