Teen driver crashes into taxi, triggers Hanau power outage and flooding
An 18-year-old driver caused a serious crash in Hanau during the early hours of Friday morning. The incident left a street flooded, damaged property, and led to a power outage. Police suspect the teenager was under the influence of drugs at the time.
The crash happened when the young driver tried to turn from Dresdner Straße into Karlsbader Straße. He failed to give way to an oncoming taxi, colliding with it. The force of the impact sent the taxi spinning off the road, smashing through a hedge and severing a fire hydrant before coming to a stop in a front garden.
The teenager remains under investigation for suspected drug-impaired driving. The incident disrupted local services, with crews working to repair the damaged hydrant and restore power. Police continue to gather evidence as part of their inquiry.
