Teen critically injured after car hits him at Giessen pedestrian crossing

A 16-year-old boy suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car in Giessen's Wieseck district on Monday evening. The accident happened as he crossed a pedestrian crossing near the junction of Wiesecker Weg and Am Steg.

The teen stepped suddenly onto the road while the driver, a woman in her 40s, was approaching in a Volkswagen. She struck him despite braking, leaving the boy with severe but non-life-threatening injuries. Paramedics rushed him to hospital for treatment.

The collision caused around €2,500 worth of damage to the car. Police attended the scene and began investigations into the circumstances. As of March 2026, no updates on traffic safety changes or new surveillance at the crossing have been announced.

The pedestrian remains in hospital recovering from his injuries. Authorities have not yet released further details on the investigation. The crossing where the accident occurred continues to operate without modifications.
