Taxi with 12 major defects pulled off road after spewing blue smoke

A car operating in Michelstadt has been pulled off the road after police discovered multiple serious defects. The vehicle, owned by Taxi-Zentrale Michelstadt GmbH, was still carrying passengers despite clear signs of mechanical failure. Officers intervened following reports of thick blue smoke and a strong odour coming from the car.

The incident began when police spotted the car on Federal Highway 45, travelling from Michelstadt to Bad KĂśnig. The car's exhaust was emitting blue smoke and a pungent smell, noticeable even with the patrol car's windows closed. Officers stopped the vehicle for inspection.

The examination revealed twelve major defects. The exhaust system was faulty, the airbag system malfunctioned, and the handbrake did not work. The braking system also had issues, and the error memory had been deliberately cleared to hide dashboard warnings. Additionally, the front and rear axles were fitted with tyres of different circumferences.

Despite these problems, the driver continued transporting a passenger. The car, which had clocked over 900,000 kilometres, failed its emissions test due to the safety-related faults. Authorities immediately took the vehicle out of service.

The car will no longer operate until all defects are repaired. The case highlights the risks of ignoring vehicle maintenance, particularly when carrying passengers. Taxi-Zentrale Michelstadt GmbH now faces potential penalties for allowing the car to remain in service.
