SWG current building activities in the Marburg Street on

Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) will begin major construction on Marburger Straße from January 5. The project aims to expand the district heating network in Giessen’s northern area. Residents and drivers should expect some disruption as work progresses over the coming months.

The first phase will focus on the right outbound lane, followed by the left outbound lane. Crews will then move to the left inbound lane before finishing with the right lane toward the city centre. Throughout the process, one lane in each direction will stay open to keep traffic flowing.

A nearby traffic island has already been removed to help maintain two-way access. However, some parking spaces will be unavailable, and the right-side outbound sidewalk will have restricted use. SWG spokesperson Ulli Boos admitted the work would cause inconvenience but assured that updates would be provided if delays occur. The project includes laying new pipelines and upgrading aging power lines. SWG expects to complete the crossing of Marburger Straße by the end of March. Deputy corporate spokesperson Julia Schnabel, along with other SWG representatives, has been listed on the company’s press page in connection with this and other local infrastructure projects.

The construction is part of SWG’s ongoing efforts to modernise Giessen’s heating and power networks. While traffic and pedestrian access will be affected, the company has planned measures to reduce disruption. Final completion of the Marburger Straße work is scheduled for late March, weather and progress permitting.
